Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) save lives by reviving the hearts of people who experienced a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). AED delivers an electrical shock to the heart to restore its normal rhythm.
If you live in one of the cities listed below, please make a note of the locations where AEDs have been placed. Should a person suffer a sudden cardiac arrest near one of these locations, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) should be commenced immediately.
In the meantime, the bystanders should rush to the AED location and bring the AED to the place where the victim is lying with CPR ongoing. Handling an AED is not be a problem, since it has a
voice-guided system that takes the user through a number of easy-to-follow steps supported by pictures. The AED’s pads are placed on the victim’s bare chest, CPR is interrupted, AED is switched on and it analyses the heart’s rhythm. If the AED determines that a shock is needed, stay away from the victim (with no one touching him or her) and press the ‘Shock’ button. If the person does not revive and until the AED indicates otherwise, continue with CPR.
